Here’s a look around our holiday home in the evening. It’s that time when our Christmas tree shines and the lights sparkle, when the blankets come out and the snuggling begins.

When you think about the magic that surrounds this time of year, what comes to mind? For me it’s a feeling – the weight of a heavy blanket, the sound of soft music, the slower pace that seems to come with shorter days. The glow from the tree, the Christmas special on repeat (or in our case, Sesame Street). It’s that mix that makes me smile and gives me All the Feels for this time of year – and yes, I am that person who truly loves the holidays.

But in a social media world of bright photos, endless bottle brush trees (guilty) and fresh snow, there’s a gap: the nighttime! And isn’t that the most special time of day for the holiday ~magic~? (À la A Night In, remember?) The lighting of a candle. The spoon scraping against that pot full of tonight’s dinner. Or maybe it’s the door swinging open and closed as the kids come and go, family in and out.

So this is our home at night. My favorite time of day, really, and arguably the least documented.

During the day, Scott and I work in our home studio upstairs. In an effort to bring the festive feeling into the office, Scott strung a strand of Christmas lights above the sofa and around a door. I added fairy lights (these) to the credenza that hides our printer. We thought, this is just temporary – just until we can hang a few hooks in the wall or bring in more greenery. But after 2 days, 3 days, a week – a month! – we never added hooks. No greenery.

Lucy loves the lights. We love the lights! They’re exactly as they should be.

This is our home for the holidays – at night. We’d love to see yours, too, if you’d like to share! Tag us @yellowbrickhome so we can get a glimpse into that ~magical~ time of day.
PS: You can see our holiday home tour during the day right here, and this is a round-up of flocked trees in every shape and size.
UMMMM….BABY #2 on the horizon (re: FOUR stockings hung)?! Maybe?! Weeeeeee!!! :)
Sorry to get your hopes up… the dogs share that fourth stocking! :D
Wow. UGH. As someone who struggled to get one, I find comments like this to be appalling. And hurtful. Think before you speak.
Can you share the link (if there is one) to your floating shelves in the living room?
Sure! I think you mean these (in our home studio)? https://yellowbrickhome.com/studio-salvaged-wood-shelves/
These pictures are so dreamy! I love your space!

Ahh so soothing! I love the lights!
Thank you, Ashley!
I was wondering what lightbulbs you use. Mine always seem so yellowish or else suuupppeeerr bright. Thanks!
Our tree came pre-lit, but we always have lucky with 2700k bulbs! We stay away from ‘cool,’ since those are always way too blue for our tastes.
Thank you for sharing this perspective! Would you be willing to do a future post about how to take great nighttime photos with tree lights? My evening/night pictures never seem to capture the magic glow – it just looks blown out or flat.
It’s tough! I’ve actually dived into it in a VERY old post. (Can you even recognize that home?!) Hopefully this helps? https://yellowbrickhome.com/setting-the-mood-indoor-photography-at-night/
Thanks!! I’ve been reading for years and used to dream of having that built in TV cabinet :)
Memories!!
Lovely…I love the look of your home. Slightly minimalist but warm and comfortable! Happy Holidays!
Aw, thank you very much.
