How We Organized Our Kitchen

Take a peek inside our drawers and behind our cabinet doors! These are all the ways we’re keeping our kitchen tidy and organized.

The Pantry

The hero of our kitchen organization game is this pantry! We’re a family of 3, so we don’t need a lot of food storage. This feels monstrous to us, but we are grateful for the room to grow! The pantry features everything from these 12″ turntables (we’ve tried several brands, and these turntables are the best!), wine bottle organizers, and sturdy wire basket pull out shelves.

Food Storage Containers

For items that are always on our grocery list, we’ve decided to try decanting! We use these OXO Pops containers in Our Tree House kitchen, and they’re wonderful. It was an easy choice to use the again! We’re currently storing pasta, popcorn, granola, and dry baking supplies. For the baking supplies, I also contained them within a clear bin so I can pull them all out at once. We made cookies last week, and it was such a simple pleasure!

Food Bins

Lucy is at the age where she simply can’t be satiated! She’s growing like a weed, and she enjoys being self-sufficient. To nurture the latter, we gave her an entire drawer for her after-school snack that she can access herself. We monitor what goes in, and she still has to ask first. It’s pretty bare right now (time for a refill!), but she loves the independence from choosing for herself. These pantry bins are 15″ deep and include dividers for keeping things tidy!

Drawer Dividers

Call me a convert – I’m officially obsessed with these drawer organizer strips! They take more time to insert into the drawers, but they are FULLY customizable and more permanent than dividers that use tension. They stay gloriously in place, and anyone who has ever wanted to throw a tension divider out the window may understand this. They are 100% a MUST TRY.

The Spice Drawer

Anyone else struggle with their spice drawer? Our previous kitchen had a slim pullout which worked beautifully… until one too many spices took over. Bending over to read the labels became a hassle, so we knew we wanted to work in a spice drawer this time around. We’re using this spice organizer with these bamboo lid spice jars, and my heart has never been so happy. It’s featured prominently in the top drawer, next to the range.

Upgrading our silverware tray

We are of the mindset that we only want to keep what we absolutely need, and everything else can be donated or sold. Our Tree House kitchen is slimmed down, and we’ve never once wished for an item that we didn’t have. The basics are really all we need! We kept that philosophy in mind when we opted to donate our monstrous silver tray of yore (complete with pull out wings on the side) and instead, chose this acrylic tray. Aside from our one and only set of silverware, it also stores all our straws and a few cocktail necessities. Cooking tools and knives were moved near the range.

Non-Slip Liners

Many of the drawers you’ve seen throughout the post feature these non-slip liners! It was a bit of an investment up front, but I’m happy I took the plunge since I’ll never have to think about it again. Because we opted for all-drawer base cabinets in this design, we needed to prevent tumblers, dishes and serving bowls from jostling around every time we opened them. Turns out, these non-slip liners also work great with our booze pull-out! No slipping whatsoever, can be cut down to size, and are thick enough to absorb shock.

The Junk Drawer

Our junk drawer has never been happier! These organizer trays (similar) are great for piecing together like Tetris, can be stacked, and keep the smallest bits and bobs in place. Tip: Unbox your light bulbs, batteries and other packaging! You don’t need it, and you’ll save so much space.

Kitchen Organization Round-Up!

I’ve rounded everything up below, including a few other items to keep things tidy, such as my favorite amber glass soap pump, this black marble sponge dish, and the cutest scalloped storage baskets!
