The Weekender: The Good, Not-So-Good, and Really Good News from Kitchen Demo Day

The Good, Not-So-Good, and Really Good News from Kitchen Demo Day

If you’ve been following on Stories this week, you know that demolition started in the kitchen! (And if you’re wondering why we’re demo-ing the kitchen, we answer a lot of questions in this post.) It’s been almost all great news, with only one minor setback – that will really serve us and our tenants better in the long run.

The Good | Our general contractor is working through the logistics of moving our furnace with the help of our preferred HVAC contractor. We’ve worked with both of them for a long time, so they know our quirks and preferences. They know we don’t like to settle for anything less than our wildest imaginations, and they always push for us to make things happen. In other words, we love them! Most recently, they problem solved a solution to completely eliminate our HVAC soffit and the size of the closet needed for the new furnace. This, in turn, helps to alleviate a big eye sore (the massive soffit we used to have), and the smaller furnace closet will give us a kitchen bigger than we realized! I literally danced in the kitchen when all the puzzle pieces clicked.

The Not-So-Good | Did you notice how I said new furnace a few sentences back? In order to reduce the size of the closet, we were encouraged to upgrade to a high efficiency furnace. And not just our furnace, but also the furnace in our tenants’ garden apartment (right beneath us). This means more money spent (the not-so-good), but also reduced utility bills, more quiet machines and, of course, allows us to squeeze out every possible inch in the new kitchen space (good!).

boop!

The Really Good! | Our favorite news of the week was finding an original door to our home, hidden beneath the walls! We had already purchased a new furnace closet door, but now we plan to restore the vintage door and use that instead. We’re so excited to revive a piece of our home’s history and put it back on full display. In case you missed it, here’s a Reel that shows where our contractor uncovered it. You can almost smell the old house demolition through the video, ha!

Other Things This Week:

Pink and yellow bathroom of my DREAMS.

Lucy’s bed was delivered this week, and we still need to show you! (It’s this one.) We’ll do that soon, but in the meantime, I need to share these adorable bunk bed alternatives. Don’t show Lucy, or she’ll want a room do-over.

Made me cry.❤️

Looking for a cute, affordable rain boot for this wet season? I can’t recommend these enough! True-to-size. I have Cream White, but I kind of can’t stop thinking about the White with Green.

The Sephora Spring Savings Event is going on for a few more days, which gives you 15% off sitewide. Since Sephora rarely has sales, this is when I like to stock up for the next year! You can find my skincare and makeup routine on the blog, and I’ll share a few favorites below, too:

Color theory lovers, this one’s for you! I could watch @chrisbreier mix and match colors all. day. long. This is a favorite, but they’re all mesmerizing.

While on the hunt for a skirt that was comfortable with shape, not too long and not too bright, I found this. Aka, my new skirt I’ll be wearing every day this summer. I bought the heather blue medium (normally a 26 or 4 in jeans), and 10/10, would recommend!

Weekend Sales

Have a Happy Weekend!

What are your plans for the weekend? Lucy is on spring break (as a pre-schooler, this makes me chuckle), so we’re taking full advantage and focusing on family time for the next week. We won’t be sharing anything on the blog for the next 7 days, but you can see what we’re up to on Instagram @yellowbrickhome. Have a happy weekend!

The weather will be unseasonably cool in central Florida this weekend (low 70s!), so I’ll be outside with the pup as much as possible! I’m also finishing up a little bathroom refresh so maybe I’ll get some fancy bath things from Sephora to celebrate ???? I’m already very excited to see where your kitchen is headed! That door! ❤️ Have a great weeekend!ReplyCancel

Cool door find! I’d love to see how get a slab to fit in a new door frame. I’ve only used prehung doors. We are deep in house projects too, but might take a break this weekend. We just got back from spring break in Florida so now it’s back to work.ReplyCancel
