Today we’re rounding up all of the deep red paint colors we considered for our recent primary bedroom refresh!
If you haven’t checked out the big reveal of our primary bedroom refresh, we urge you to check it out prior to diving in to this roundup! For the freshened space, we wanted to keep the wall color on the darker side of the spectrum to maintain the moody vibes that we’d come to love.
We started with swatches of all nine of the colors below, and used our tried and true method of painting them onto foam boards, then moving those boards around the room throughout the day. As the light shifted, some revealed themselves to be too brown. Others were too maroon. When it came down to it, the finalists were Bewitched by Benjamin Moor and Dark Auburn by Sherwin Williams. In the end, Bewitched eeked out the win. We’ve been seeing a lot more deep reds in our feeds lately! Have you used or considered any of these shades? if not, any others we should consider for next time?
1. benjamin moore bewitched (the winner!) | 2. sherwin williams dark auburn | 3. sherwin williams polished mahogany | 4. sherwin williams cordovan | 5. benjamin moore raphael | 6. valspar royal garnet | 7. benjamin moore arroyo red | 8. valspar heirloom red | 9. farrow + ball deep reddish brown

I think we’re going with Valspar Ancient Burgundy in our new den, and I am so so excited. So easy to veer into too brown or too barn red, so I can’t wait to see it in the space itself. Love the bedroom!
Its a delicate balance for sure!
I love this red so much! Great choice. I swear by matchmypaintcolor.com when choosing between similar shades, and it definitely was right this time, you top two choices are practically twins. https://www.matchmypaintcolor.com/benjamin-moore/bewitched-csp-450. I then use https://hextoral.com/side-by-side/to figure out the RGB values which helps me figure out the undertones.
Can you tell I just bought a condo and have a lot of painting in my future? The space is kind of dark so I’m also checking the paint choices to find the higher light reflective values (LRV) I can.
Thanks for sharing those great resources!
