Get the Look: Home Office (aka the Dining Room)

By day, our dining room is a home office, and by night, it doubles as the meal gathering spot for our family and friends. Here’s how to get the look!

Home Office or Dining Room?

Why not both! We’re firm believers in every room of our home being used to the fullest extent. The play room doubles as a gathering spot for game nights, our kitchen boasts a bistro table over an island (we didn’t need), the snug is where we curl up to browse records and play dolls, and the dining room? Well, the dining room is not only where we gather every evening for family dinner, but it’s where we work all day – designing rooms, reviewing samples and writing this blog! (Oh, and did I mention the biggest perk? It’s right next to the kitchen! Snacks all day!)

Get the Look

If you, like us, end up spending your WFH hours around the dining table, we’re sharing how we got the look below! The newest addition is our deep red office cabinet, full of the supplies we reach for daily. I’m sharing a similar dresser in this round up, although any slim dresser would do the trick with a splash of your favorite paint color!

Get the Look

1. Rectangle Wall Mirror

Our large credenza mirror is still, hands down, our best vintage score. We found it for $1 at a small flea market in Ohio! That said, I love the scale and finish of this smaller mirror, perfect to add polish and natural light. Tip: Hanging a mirror opposite a window will allow light to bounce around the room.

2. Wonderland Book

As a lifelong appreciator and student of photography, Annie Liebovitz’ book, Wonderland, is my go-to for keeping on display. I guarantee you are familiar with her work, and this book is the ultimate collection of her talent.

3. Book Display Stand

We were gifted this display stand, the perfect companion to your coffee table book of choice. (Or use it to flat lay a family photo album!)

4. Hood Classic Pendant

Traditional in style, yet modern enough to hang in almost any home setting. We love that the Hood pendant offers an endless array of glass and finish options, providing you with a highly customized finished product.

5. Taper Candleholders

Can you even have too many candleholders? These are a great take on a vintage shape, and we enjoy mixing our thrifted holders with new styles. Try twisted beeswax tapers for a fun, um, twist?

6. Ryland Dresser

We needed a dresser that was wide yet not very deep, and this dresser was a huge inspiration for our final design. I love the clean lines here, although don’t you think it would look quite handsome in…

7. Red Theatre Paint

… Sherwin-Williams Red Theatre? This red is rich and deep, timeless and stunning all in one. It’s a bold complement to our nearby kitchen cabinetry!

8. Brass Cabinet Handle

When deciding on hardware for our DIY dresser/credenza, I was initially torn between double knobs on each drawer vs. an extra wide handle. But after playing around with scale using painter’s tape, we landed on these 6″ pulls which felt so sweet, simple and just right.

9. AromaTech

The AromaTech has changed the game for scent in our home! We’ve been using it for well over a year, and without fail, the first thing people say when they walk in our home is, ‘what is that scent?!’ The scents you use fill a room beautifully, and you can control the strength through the Scenting app. The Hotel is our signature home scent!

10. Pedestal Bowl

We stash our Instax photos in this bowl, but it’s a statement piece all on its own. You’ve likely spotted this moving around our house frequently! Definitely a favorite decor piece of ours.

11 + 12. Faux Leaf Branch + Matte Ceramic Vase

We call this the power duo! While the vase is a sculpture on its own, you’ll usually find me stuffing it wit faux stems and moving it from the credenza to the dining table, back and forth again.

13. Mazie Leather Chair

If you’re looking for comfort while dining, these chairs are it. The vegan leather wipes clean beautifully, and the arms slope down just enough to allow the chairs to tuck neatly all the way in.

14. Loloi Jules Rug

The pattern in this rug makes it very forgiving – perfect for under a dining table – and the subtle tones of red throughout are a happy complement to our red credenza. Currently on sale!

15. Round Dining Table

Our dining table was made custom, but at the time, it was almost impossible to find a table in our shape and wood tone! Now the options abound, but this one is almost a dead ringer for the table we designed.

Looking for more? This is how we organized our home office (before we turned it into a play room), why we nixed our dedicated home office, the story of our custom dining table, and home office supplies that look good.
