These are the items we used to stock our kitchen from the bottom up, including everything from our small appliance choices – all the way down to the kitchen ‘junk drawer.’

Stocking the Red House Kitchen
We recently revealed the completed Red House Kitchen and we’re so thankful for all of your kind and thoughtful feedback on the project! You can check that post out here. If you’re curious about how the budget all worked out, we’ve also got a full budget breakdown here! Building a kitchen from scratch is always a fun puzzle to put together! As wild as it may sound, we start thinking about the items that will fill the cabinets and drawers before we even lay out the space. This allows us to make sure that we have adequate space for everything and that all of our appliances have a plug nearby. That said, even if you’re not starting completely from scratch, we’ve tested every one of these items and found them to land in a sweet spot of quality and value.
Small Appliances + Cookware
Did we mention that we over-researched every purchase that we made for this kitchen? For example, we purchased and returned (unused, of course!) three microwaves until we found the exact right fit for the space? The microwave sits hidden inside an upper cabinet, so slim proportions were a must. We also tested out multiple Nespresso machines to ensure that we ended up with all of the features we need. (Side note, how on earth do some Nespresso machines lack an Americano setting?! It’s the simplest of all the espresso drinks!) I digress. For the hardgoods, we stuck with tried and true Greenpan cookware, USA Pan bakeware and some simple, sturdy accessories to keep the kitchen experience simple, yet elevated.

1. 12 piece cookware set | 2. microwave oven | 3. espresso machine | 4. wall clock | 5. 2 slice wide slot toaster | 6. canvas pot holders | 7. 6 piece bakeware set | 8. oil cruet | 9. super simple cookbook | 10. the well plated cookbook | 11. once upon a chef cookbook
Utensils + Serveware
Many of the items below will spend the majority of their time hidden in a drawer, quietly ready to perform their occasional duty. Even though they’re out of sight and mind most of the time, they still need to work flawlessly every time and feel nice in-hand. For simple, single-function tools like can openers, peelers and pizza cutters, it’s hard to go wrong with KitchenAid. Their devices all look nice enough and perform well for the long haul with great bang for the buck. Nothing’s more frustrating than a wonky can opener that can’t do the thing that it was designed to do! The rest of the tools here were chosen with both form and function in mind and we’re really happy with everything so far.

1. magnetic measuring spoon set | 2. coffee stirrers | 3. checkered utensil holder | 4. jar spoon | 5. 6 piece wooden cooking utensils | 6. can opener | 7. pizza wheel | 8. fable dining collection | 9. ice cream scoop | 10. spice mill | 11. vegetable peeler | 12. solid turner | 13. locking tongs
Cleaning Supplies
Cleaning supplies are a class of items that seem to multiply out of nowhere. One day you can’t find the cleaning spray, and the next week there are six half-empty bottles crammed under the kitchen sink somehow. To fill our new kitchen, we bought items we’ve been using for years that can perform multiple cleaning tasks. We’re recent converts to the magic of Dawn Powerwash and can’t imagine living without it now. We use it to clean dishes as intended, but it’s also great for cleaning sneakers, spots, stains and other tough messes with minimal residue. Folex is also one of the first cleaning products we bring into any project, because stains and spills are gonna happen and you might just need to deep clean your sofa.

1. pot brush set | 2. wood cutting board care | 3. hand soap dispenser set | 4. coconut milk + sandalwood soap refill | 5. serving tray | 6. dawn powerwash spray | 7. microfiber kitchen towels | 8. multi-surface cleaner concentrate | 9. microfiber cleaning clothes | 10. folex carpet spot remover
Organization
You didn’t think we were just gonna throw this stuff into a bunch of drawers, did you!?! We love an organized kitchen! We also firmly believe that having a dedicated spot for everything will make spending time in your kitchen more enjoyable and actually encourage you to cook more. It’s all about having the right tool for every job and having the right space for every tool. These drawer organizers are even capable of turning a ‘junk drawer’ into an organized spot for simple, daily use tools like scissors, box cutters and tape. There’s always going to be a catch-all drawer, but that doesn’t mean it has to be a mess. For every kitchen, we pick the same pair of scissors, the same box cutter and the same pens and notebooks. These tools just work!

1. grip shelf liner | 2. 13 piece drawer organizer | 3. expandable drawer organizer | 4. clear storage bins | 5. drawer dividers | 6. lazy susan organizers | 7. spice drawer organizer | 8. knife block | 9. cookbook stand | 10. scotch magic tape | 11. wood clothes pins | 12. lined spiral notebooks | 13. box cutter | 14. pens | 15. scissors
We love a good round-up! See all of our curated round-ups right here, including the items in our renovation clean up kit, Kim’s favorite tops + tees, and the best of Amazon!

hi! where did you purchase the gold/metal outlet wall plates? I just renovated my kitchen and the white builders grade outlet covers are a bummer! Thanks :)
Hi Jessica! Brass switch plate covers are from Rejuvenation!
where did you get the metal outlet wall plates!
They’re from Rejuvenation! Linked here.
I was hoping you’d include silverware. So many sets are flimsy, poorly balanced, or just ugly. Any suggestions on a set that has a quality look and feel?
Hi Erika! We purchased Fable silverware! We love it, but the knives aren’t super sharp (we supplement with steak knives when needed). Would recommend with that small caveat.
At home, we have a great set from Crate & Barrel which have lasted us YEARS.
