The (Week and) Week’s End

It’s been far too long since I’ve photographed our weekend (or in this case, our week, too!), and with our friend Kalli visiting from Los Angeles this past week, it was the perfect reason to get back into the habit. Well, that, and the warm weather we’ve been having! It’s always so good to see her – the visits are far and few between (remember when we hopped around her city?) – and I can definitely say that we happily exhausted ourselves.

We ate – a lot! We thrifted, beached, climbed trees, played games until our cheeks hurt with laughter and screamed at the television when the Penguins lost (er, or was that just me and Scott?). We walked Jack and CC along the lakefront, dined on midnight snacks and relaxed along the boulevards. I can’t remember the last time I fell asleep so fast in the evenings – or the last time both Scott and I allowed ourselves to sleep in past seven. It was perfect, and as always, the time went by too quickly. (Kalli, the next visit’s on us! Sunny California, you’re up.)

After we said our goodbyes, Scott and I dived head first into a day of slow projects, wrapping up loose ends and planning for what’s next. We’re mid way through entryway baseboards (more on that very, very soon!), and we’re flipping out over the ability to open these windows, work outdoors and move onwards with the patio. The patio! Ooh, the seasons are finally changing, and moods are lifting. (Peace out, winter blues!)

PS… new knobs for the filing cabinet! Much better.

We sure have a beautiful city, don’t we? And how have I never noticed the curviness of the building by the CNA building?ReplyCancel

As always, your photos are amazing! I love the one of the girl lounging in the park with her dog — I would love one like that of my pooches and me. And that one of CC and Scott — gimme a break! Too cute!!

    Looks like a great week/weekend — we can’t wait to come back!!ReplyCancel

      Ah! Great minds!

If it makes you feel better, Scott was sad I didn’t pick up those chairs too – but they weren’t very solid. Sort of cheap MCM, as opposed to something hunky to withstand time.ReplyCancel

Just found your blog recently and love the Chicago references (I am now in love with Jubilee which I had never heard of before). What bakery is that with the cupcake? Doesn’t look like Sweet Mandy B’s?ReplyCancel

    • Kim4.22.14 - 10:47 AM

It was Magnolia Bakery (located in Block 37 on State St). So happy you found us – and Jubilee!ReplyCancel

  • I’m so excited to get up to Chicago this weekend! These pictures are helping/not helping (What do you mean I still have to work for the next few days. Pfft!)ReplyCancel

Oh, these are beautiful photos! I just love the positioning/cropping you did on the one with the people running (chasing?) each other on all that cement.

These pics are making me miss Chicago, big time. I’ll have to plan a trip back there some time soon.ReplyCancel

I was just doing my end-of-day-web-surfing and posts like this re-center me. What you see through that lens calms my soul time and time again. Thank you for being a constant inspiration.ReplyCancel

I spy Bang! Bang! That’s our go to local pie shop. Love any excuse in the summer to hang out in their back patio.

Oh, yes, it’s a good one! Have you tried Marble’s patio? (On Armitage/Sawyer)ReplyCancel
