30 Coffee Tables for When You’re Short on Space

Coffee tables are a little tricky, aren’t they? The smaller your room, the trickier it gets, too. We’ve been through several, with the first being skinny but almost 6′ long (or was it 7′?!), and for a while, we didn’t have one at all. During the latter, I loved to sit on the floor, stretch out my legs and give Jack a good scratch. Not having a place to set a drink, however? That got old quickly, and so we made a table from hairpin legs and a round pine top (here’s that video tutorial!). We knew it wasn’t our forever table, but in our long and narrow Chicago living room, we were happy with the shape and size.

It wasn’t until very recently that we felt like this room hit its stride. We swapped the curved sofa and pair of armchairs for a low, deep sectional and one accent chair. The room felt light and new again, and it has been serving our family so well. In the transition, we felt ready to commit to a coffee table that we loved, and we agreed that the L-shape of our new seating arrangement begged for another small, round table. This would allow us enough floor space to play with Lucy and keep our pouf, too.

Our Coffee Table Wish List:

Less than 36″ in diameter, but ideally, closer to 32″
Light wood to bring in some warmth
A place to hide away remote controls and small knick knacks

A combination of all three wishes began to feel like the impossible feat, so we convinced ourselves that 2 out of 3 wasn’t bad. But! While we were in Malibu, we stumbled across the Menu Turning Table in a small boutique, and it was love at first sight. Better yet, it hit all three must-haves! In the weeks following our trip, we dug deeper into online shopping and filed away more favorites, but we kept coming back to the Turning Table. We knew it would be an investment piece, and as luck would have it, we found it on sale for close to 30% off – although we can’t find it at that price anywhere now! We pounced.

We have the ‘white oak,’ although online, the table looks almost gray. When we saw it in Malibu, it was definitely more of a light wood tone, and we were relieved to see that it was just as we remembered! We don’t keep much on top, only our tray of instant photos (that we move out of the way when we’re playing) and a couple of chew necklaces for Lucy.

But the real kicker is the inside! The top literally turns away to reveal a hidden compartment. Of course Lucy figured this out almost immediately, and rather than fight it, we decided to tuck away a few treasures for her. This remote control makes her ridiculously happy, and the songs it plays are actually quite cute! The top swings both directions, and on the other side, we keep a handful of coasters (Lucy even likes to play with these felt ones) and the real remote.

In the weeks leading up to our final purchase, we stashed so many other favorite tables away, all of which would be perfect for a small space, and we wanted to share them here! Although not all of them include storage, they’re all under 36″ in diameter or have a width of under 24″. I’ve included a mix of textures, warm metals, wood and stone. We were thisclose to purchasing #2, #20 or #21 many times, and we’re still considering #14 as an end table. (Tip: If you like #2, it’s always selling out, so jump on it!) We’d love to hear if any of these end up working for your spaces!

I think I’ve found my forever coffee table, but round ones like these will always have a place in my heart! I love the one you picked! I also love that Lucy plays with all your coasters, I have an almost one year old (be still my heart) who is pretty sure that coasters were invented for her to sweep triumphantly off the table!ReplyCancel
