Screensavers That Double As Art + 22 Digital Downloads to Try!

I’m sharing my tips for uploading digital screensavers to your television that double as art! I’ve also rounded up some of my favorite digital downloads that could offer a supporting role to your home’s design style.

We did a thing: We put a television in our bedroom! Although I shared this (wonderful! glorious!) news in our Stories a couple of months ago, it never gets less exciting. And while I know it’s not for everyone (and can even be a sticking point in a relationship), I have no regrets as I sip my wine and binge-watch television from the comfort of my bed in the evenings.

Why am I sharing this? Well, it was the kick in the pants we were looking for to upgrade our living room television to a Samsung Frame TV. We have one in Tree House, and after living with it for a few years, we’re sold. 10/10, would purchase again! The picture quality is A+ and the less glossy screen helps digital screensavers to look more realistic.

We’ve seen some awesome tutorials of others adding digital artwork + a physical frame to their own televisions (check out Jenna Sue for inspiration!), and I think it’s official: No one wants neon screensavers with lasers, time stamps or underwater scenes anymore. Most modern televisions offer the option to upload your own artwork so that you can swap in photos + artwork that enhance your space.

Tips for Uploading Digital Screensavers to Your TV

  • High resolution downloads are a must. Digital downloads you purchase online will (more than likely always) be high resolution, however, the photo your friend sent you in an email may not.
  • Pay attention to ratio. A download that you purchase to pop in an 8×10 photo frame won’t be the right fit for a television, but it’s an easy fix. Open the download on your computer or phone, and crop the photo to a 16:9 ratio, the most common size for a television. Look up the specs on your TV to double check the proper ratio. Formatting your photo to the correct ratio is key to ensuring it fills the screen properly!
  • If the download is on my computer, I text it to myself and then upload it my Samsung app on my smartphone. Every television is, of course, different, so you’ll want to verify which upload option will work for you.
  • I save all my digital screensavers in a separate album on my camera roll so that I can easily access them and upload something new, if I’d like.

Below, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite digital downloads that err on the side neutral, offering a supporting role to your home’s design style. The cost of a single download can range in price from $5 – $20, but once you’ve made the purchase, that file is yours to print or display digitally!

We love our Samsung Frame TV… I have yet to have ours mounted above the mantle- a tutorial or how to hang and hide the wires (I can’t figure out how to do that over a fireplace) would be GREATLY appreciated- or maybe you recommend calling in the pros for this one? ReplyCancel

Hi Lauren! The interesting thing about the frame TV is that the big ‘control box’ (I forget Samsung’s name for it) can be installed independently from the TV itself. The only wire that connects them is very thin and almost invisible, so maybe running it down along the back of the mantle could work? Hope this helps!ReplyCancel

While I love the idea of not looking at a big black screen, I assume the tv has to be on to display the image. How much energy does that consume? ReplyCancel

    • Kim3.1.21 - 2:04 PM

Our Frame turns into screensaver mode which uses VERY minimal energy (it’s just a static image). I’m mostly suggesting these downloads as an alternative to the default screensavers that are built into the Roku and Apple TVs, or to use when you have company over!ReplyCancel

My partner and I are in the middle of a fight over a TV in the bedroom! ???? He’s wants one, I’m a hard no! Although perhaps I could be swayed with a Samsung Frame TV.. ????ReplyCancel

Sarah, do it! It’s the best thing ever! (Says the girl who was on team tv in the bedroom, haha.)ReplyCancel

I am (we are? including my husband automatically on my side) team NO TV in the bedroom. I just can’t handle electronics in the bedroom, I don’t even take my phone into the bedroom unless it’s in sleep mode.ReplyCancel

Ditto, Julie…I’m with you!  It’s best for one’s health…hands down!  Read all the research on sleep and not one expert will dispute it.  It’s everyone’s prerogative of course…enjoyed your post, Kim for the screensaver info (for my living room & gym!) oxReplyCancel

Just out of curiosity: are you planning on adding a Digital Downloads section to your Etsy shop? I’m sure some of your pictures would look great on a Frame TV!ReplyCancel

I’ve gone back and forth on this so many times, and haven’t made a decision! I know digital downloads are everyone’s preference, but I’ve also secured a great printer that provides high quality giclee prints. I may change ALL my prints over to digital downloads in the future – just not there yet. Great question, and THANK YOU!ReplyCancel
