I just re-read our post from one year ago (almost to the day), and I was overcome with a strong surge of warmth and happiness. 2017 was a wild ride, but 2018? 2018 changed us. We met the love of our lives at the top of the year. Somewhere between then and now, we blinked, and it’s somehow the year’s end. Over dinner one evening, a friend and I were talking about life with Lucy, and with two kids of his own, he told me, welcome to the Parent Time Warp. It’s the best. Remember it, and hang on. I told Scott the same as we tucked ourselves into bed that night, and we promised each other that we would squeeze every moment – so tight.

2018 saw some of the best moments of our whole lives. Lucy belly laughing. Jack and Lucy kissing. Our oldest baby, Libby, forcing her way onto my lap while I nursed the newest baby. I also struggled at times – still do – with small bouts of the baby blues (rearing its ugly head when I least expected and hanging around so rudely), and I’m working towards the healthiest version of myself every day. We strived to find the elusive work / balance, and we made big shifts, both personally and professionally, to find it. (We’re still looking, but we’re getting closer.)

Tree House took off running! Big picture: She saw a renovated kitchen, mudroom and guest room. Little picture: Her old hardware was shined up, doors and windows painted, cabinets organized and walls painted. Wait, you know what? On second thought, let’s file the painted walls under big picture. That was huge.

Our Chicago home evolved. She’s working harder than ever for our family! After years of updates, those tall and narrow stairs are safe. The guest room is cozy and inviting, the living room is made for cuddling, and the nursery is our favorite place to be. We freed our home of items that weighed her down, and we all felt lighter as a result of it; it’s a process we work on every day, really.

Friends, thank you for reading and sharing your words, ideas and kindness with us! We’re so grateful that you’re here, and we wish you a merry holiday, doing whatever it is that makes you happy. We’ll see you back on the blog in the new year with rested minds and DIY on the agenda, and until then, we’ve rounded up a handful of our favorite posts from 2018 (just click on any thumbnail below to take you to the post!). xx
