Is Music in the Kitchen Mandatory? + A Smart Speaker Roundup

Today we’re discussing the importance of music in the kitchen and rounding up a bunch of our favorite attractive smart speaker options.

For us, the answer is yes! There is always music playing in our home. Always. Unless we’re watching a show or sleeping, we have music on. Nearly every room has a smart speaker that connects to our whole home audio system. We’ve traveled far and wide to see shows, planned trips around concerts and visit new record stores on vacations. Music is in our veins. For us, music brings us joy, matches our moods, makes gatherings more fun, and can turn an otherwise mundane task like doing dishes into a dance party. So, yes! For us, music in the kitchen is absolutely mandatory.

We’ve written about our love of music and how we play it throughout our home in that past. Read about our whole-home audio system here and here, our love of Sonos here, and our turntable guide here. We even have our own Spotify channel with curated playlists for every mood!

All that said, finding aesthetically pleasing ways to bring music into a space without breaking the bank can pose a challenge. To aid in inspiring as many kitchen dance parties as possible, we’ve rounded up a bunch of beautiful, highly rated speakers below. Some are portable, some require a plug. Some are small enough to fit in a pocket or purse and some are as big as a shoebox. They all, however, have wireless connectivity via bluetooth and/or Airplay 2 for easy connection to a phone or laptop! Here are our favorites that would look good sitting out on any shelf in your home.
