Get the Look | Our Family Room

All the items we used to refresh, organize and prep our family room for lounging and creative play.

Create + Gather

We call it the ‘family room,’ but this space is SO much more than that! It’s a place to gather, lounge and relax, yes. But it’s also a place to create, imagine, build and dream. We recently refreshed this entire room (more photos here!), and it’s been serving our family in its current stage very well. Most mornings, I find Lucy at this table, hunkered over a drawing, scrambling to both finish her masterpiece and brush her teeth in time for school. Simply put? This room fulfills our family’s needs, no matter our current state of play.

Art Organization

To make the room work for our varying needs, we needed organizational systems in place! Woven storage boxes hide Lucy’s stash of spare notebooks, while also looking quite cute on the credenza. Clear storage boxes allow us to see what’s inside, rather than needing to label every last thing. And these silicone mats? They have been a game changer in the way we use this room, and Lucy was totally on board! We use them for every project, whether it’s slipped under a piece of thin paper to prevent marker bleed through, or put in place to catch glue and glitter.

A large dining table, nearby filing cabinet and extra wide sideboard make this room a well-oiled machine! I love wool rugs because they’re naturally stain repellent while being soft underfoot, and the ottoman doubles as storage and a cozy place to sit.

Our monsteras on the left have exploded in the last handful of years! We started using Happy Happy Houseplant Plant Food about 2 years ago and never looked back.ReplyCancel

I just realized that this second level is a duplicate of your first level, but just in reserve. Your new craft table is over your living room, and your family room couch is over your dining room. It’s the best of both worlds in one house!ReplyCancel

Yup, exactly right!! And the two levels serve two totally different purposes!ReplyCancel
