The (Super) Easy Way To Stay On Top of This Quarterly To-Do

This post is in partnership with FilterEasy, a service we can really get behind to keep us, our tenants and our homes happy. First month’s on them!

Some of you might know that we’re active landlords to two units, both our former condo and the garden unit in our current home. We generally live by the rule that no news is good news when it comes to our tenants, but every now and then, they’ll ring us up for help, and we’ll pop over to help them with a small repair or switch out specialty bulbs. When we stop by, we always make it a point to check the air filters in their furnace closets, swapping in a fresh filter every 3 months. You know, when we remember. It would be a rare occurrence to have the right size on hand, and so we check the time to see if we can squeeze in a 30 minute errand to the hardware store. While we’re at the store, we’ll pick up the other items we need – an extra paintbrush, a new tape measure and more drywall screws. Sometimes we even remember to pick up that new furnace filter, too.

We recently partnered with FilterEasy, a subscription service that makes sense. Changing out the air filter in your furnace at least every 3 months will keep your HVAC system strong and happy, but because a filter’s job main job is to trap bacteria and pollutants, it’s just as important for your health. FilterEasy makes the process of buying and changing your filters, well, easy! We started by tallying up the sizes and quantities of every furnace filter in our tenants’ homes and ours. There are three types of filters to choose from, ranging in density to block out everything from pollen to pet dander. Then, we simply chose how many filters per home, the sizes of each, which filters we preferred and how often we’d like them delivered straight to our – and our tenants’ – front doors. Now that we’ve taken the time to do so once, we won’t ever need to do it again!

Our furnace lives in the lesser seen view of our kitchen, right here:

When everyone received their delivery, it was as uncomplicated as removing the old, dusty filter and switching it for new. Our filter slips right out of a slim pocket on the side of the furnace. Because our tenants have pets and live in the garden unit of our home, respectively, we opted for the SuperAllergen filters for everyone – us included. Tip: It’s best to dispose the used filter in a plastic bag right away, as to not allow those allergens to shake loose!

It’s a job that takes less than a minute, and yet it makes all the difference in your home’s air quality, energy bill and the overall health of you and your furnace. Although it’s typically a task that falls under ‘out of sight, out of mind,’ it’s so important. Because of this, we love that the reminder is the package that will start showing up at their and our front doors every 3 months. Whether you rent or own, we think this is a subscription service that is just as smart as it is useful. Set it up now, and essentially, you’ll never need to think about it again!

The best part? FilterEasy is offering all of you a free trial to get your first month of them – hooray! – when you sign up using this link. Go, team!

I have been using Filter Easy for over a year now, and I LOVE it. Replacing the filter is definitely one of those important, but easily forgettable, tasks that keep your home running efficiently. We currently use the basic filter, but will upgrade once we get a pet again. (It’s been a year since we said good-bye to our girl, and Westminster got us feeling all the feels for a lovable furbaby again.)ReplyCancel

Aw, nothing warms the heart more than a home with pets, we think. :) Happy to hear that you’re loving FilterEasy. We sleep easier with the peace of mind knowing that our tenants are able to take care of this task and keep those HVAC systems running!ReplyCancel

I’m curious why no hardware on the furnace doors. Just to make it blend in a bit more?ReplyCancel

Yup. The last thing we wanted was to draw more attention to this corner.ReplyCancel

Yep, we are on the Filter Easy train, too. With lots of pets, changing our HEPA filter with regularity is a must, and having them delivered to us makes it brainless. Membership has been great for our little old cottage.ReplyCancel

What a neat service! Do you have them sent directly to your tenants, or do you go over and replace them for your tenants?ReplyCancel
