A Summertime Porch Refresh

A handful of swaps gives our front porch a whole new look, right in time for the summer season! This post is sponsored by AllModern.

It’s no secret that a huge selling point for us on our home was the front porch. To me, there are few things in sweeter in life than people watching from the comfort of front porch swing in the city. Make it summer and add a cold drink, and I’d consider it a full, happy day! During the warm weather months, we consider our porch an extension of our living room, so it’s always fun to give it a quick update every handful of years. Even swapping out the pillows and adding a throw is enough to make you fall in love with a room in – er, outside – your home all over again. Here’s what we did for a fresh new look with the help of AllModern!

Front Porch Swinging

We’ve been using the same white pillows for years. To give them a new look, I picked up two of these outdoor striped pillowcase covers and mixed them in with a couple of lumbar pillows we already had. Beneath our feet, we made the move from a 5′ x 7′ rug to an 8′ x 10′ rug, and what a difference it made!

The larger rug covers the entire conversational area of the porch, making it feel large and inviting. It can be tough to tell how a rug will look and feel in person, and Scott and I are over the moon with our purchase. Its super soft underfoot, and the windowpane pattern feels clean and fresh. We’re tempted to use it for a few weeks with the white side up, but the inverse pattern on the bottom would also be so, so pretty! We may try flipping it soon for another new look.

For the last few summers, we nixed any sort of coffee table in favor of more play space for Lucy. Now that she’s a little older (sniff, sniff), she – and we! – would prefer a table so she can color in her books, and we can more easily brunch outdoors. This outdoor table is sturdy, wipeable, and available in several colors! I may even pick it up in taupe for the backyard. I love that the top has a perforated pattern, preventing rain from puddling on the surface.

Sprucing Up the Front Door

Our front doormat was overdue for an upgrade, and wowthis oversized coir mat is perfect! We went from a 2′ x 3′ to a 3′ x 5′ welcome mat, and the substantial size feels like the prettiest greeting. It’s tough to find a doormat of this size, so I scooped it up as soon as I saw it on AllModern.

We typically go for a big fluffy fern by our front door, but this year I wanted to try something different. I spotted this bushy, unruly boxwood, and I knew it would be just the thing to add greenery to the front door. (Bonus: I’m hoping it will survive the winter while adding some color to the porch!)

I grew up in Detroit and back in the day the front porch was where everyone was sitting after dinner in spring and summer!  I found areas in Pittsburg to be the same.  There is nothing better than a comfortable covered front porch!  Oh the memories!  Your refresh looks great!ReplyCancel
