With spring and summer just around the corner, we’ve rounded up dinnerware that not only looks great on your patio, but is also shatter-proof and dishwasher friendly.
Patio Weather Approaches!
Yesterday in Chicago, the high temperature was 71 degrees Fahrenheit with full, glorious sun. In February. In the Midwest! While the reasons for these unseasonably high temperatures are not entirely positive, we’re choosing to embrace the shifting seasons and look toward spring! For us, spring signals the start of patio season in our own yard and in Chicago as a whole. Our city will soon burst to life with happy hours at outdoor cafes, impromptu backyard BBQ’s and lazy hangs in the park and we absolutely can’t wait.
That said, we need our dishes and serveware are ready for all the outdoor time that the season brings. We’ve been had a few sets of these dishes in our rotation as our everyday plates since completing our big kitchen remodel and we couldn’t be happier with them! They’re nearly indestructible and still look brand new after 18 months of use!
A Couple of Considerations
Before we dive into the round-up, there are a couple of considerations to be aware of. Since many of the included dishes are melamine or plastic, they may not be quite as multi-functional as their ceramic counterparts.
For example, our dishes are dishwasher safe, but can’t go into the microwave. While the lack of microwave-ability may be a dealbreaker for some, we’re willing to accept it as a tradeoff or the lack of break-ability. Anything that can help prevent breakage around our spunky six year-old and her friends is a win in our book! Just be sure to read labels and prioritize your own needs prior to selecting your own dishes and you’ll be set for outdoor hangs of your own. Enjoy the sunshine!

Wow! Why are your Sonya dishes so crazy expensive now?
It makes me so sad! I’m always keeping an eye on them in hopes they go on sale. These are a fraction of the cost and very similar!
I love how there are more beautiful option in melamine dishware. We use only unbreakable sets in our home and have a great stone looking set that fools all our guests. I hate that we can’t microwave them, but also have an inexpensive set from the target dorm room line that works great for our kids and comes in beautiful colors too.
