Getting the Shot (Amongst the Chaos)
I love a good outtake, I do, but after taking a multi-year hiatus of not sending holiday cards, I was determined to get The Shot for our return (ha!). What I thought would take 15 minutes with my camera and tripod turned into 30, which turned into 45, after which, we stopped counting. It was a recipe for chaos: two dogs, a hungry toddler, a public place and diminishing sun. Lucy munched on Cheerios while Jack and CC entangled their leashes, and after setting the self-timer for the tenth time, I waved my white flag and we tied the dogs to a tree. One more try, I said, which turned into two – and three, four, and so on. And despite the chaos that inevitably ensued, we got it. And it was absolutely worth it. (That’s my whole heart up there!)
Choosing Quality
Now that we had The Shot, it was an easy decision for us to order our cards through Artifact Uprising! We’ve purchased their products many times over the years – from their Brass Easels (a perfect holiday gift) to their Everyday Print Sets – and the quality continues to impress us. We were hard-pressed to find a design we didn’t love (the Wit & Delight collection is so fun!), but we ultimately chose the Snowfall Card with gold foil, a simple design that would allow our hard earned photo to really shine. I love their use of thick recycled paper with a matte finish, especially when paired with classic kraft envelopes – although you have your pick between silver, gold and white, too!

Make Them Yours
After selecting our card choice, we were taken to the online editor where we could position our photo, move it around, and even brighten it up or make it black and white! There are also several templates to choose from for the back of your card, and it’s here where we included an outtake of Jack and CC. You can see below that they were hoping for Lucy to drop a Cheerio – just one. Just one!

Many of the back templates allow for text, but we opted for breathing room so that Lucy could create a special masterpiece for her three sets of grandparents, or anyone, really:

Holiday Cards Made Easy
If crossing off your to-do list on the go is more your style, Artifact Uprising has a mobile app to make things a breeze; choose that photo from your camera roll that you’ve had saved on your mobile home screen for months! You can also opt to have them take care of all the addressing – theirs and yours – which we couldn’t resist. As the final touch, we sealed our envelopes with gold foil rounds.

Before mailing them off, we couldn’t forget to add our own holiday keepsake to the fridge!

Artifact Uprising is offering Yellow Brick Home readers 20% off your order when you use the promo YBH20 at checkout! Whether it’s holiday cards, a photo book for you, a gift for your best friend or a thick stack of prints for the whole family, you’re sure to find something to love.
