The Week’s End

We started The Week’s End as our own personal motivation to take a step back from the DIY and soak up Saturdays and Sundays the way we imagine most do – eating pancakes, catching a movie, walking street fairs and (my personal favorite) sitting on the couch with not a thing on the agenda. I don’t really think this is the case for most (right?), but every once in a blue moon, we do our absolute best and try. It’s important. And it’s been really fun collecting photos of these rare weekends over the years, too.

Yesterday kicked off the start of a new project (we’ll share more this week!), a project we didn’t think we’d get to this summer. We knew it would keep us busy most nights and every weekend, so we did what any sane couple does right before diving into absolute chaos – we ran away. We packed up the car, the dogs, and two suitcases, and we drove the one-and-a-half hours to Sawyer, Michigan, the sweetest coastal town along the lake. We booked our adorable Airbnb months ago, yet somehow, the weekend snuck up on us.

Daniel put us in touch with his aunt who has a home in the area (love you, friend!), and leading up to our adventure, she sent us a detailed list of all her Sawyer area favorites which we promptly abided by. Lucky for us, she invited us over for a tour of her house and her sculpture garden (that deer!) and we spent our entire time with her wishing and hoping that someday – fingers crossed! – we, too, could find our own little slice of lakeside living.

We moved in slow motion for the entire four days we called Saywer “home.” We saw a lot of couch time, and we spent every penny in our pockets on delicious food, local drinks and a teeny, tiny brass dog figurine we couldn’t pass up (who’s surprised?). Jack and CC saw sand dunes for the first time in their lives, and we spent hours running up and down the hills, emptying our shoes when the sand made them feel two sizes too small. The lake was cold and the rain would not let up, but it felt right. The weather gifted us the opportunity to have the dunes almost entirely to ourselves, and we took full advantage.

In-between our jam packed agenda of nothingness and dune hopping, we snooped on homes for sale and even peeked inside a few. We couldn’t help ourselves! We daydreamed about what it would be like to unlock the door to our own home in Sawyer, and we tisked ourselves for not having visited sooner. We came home full, happy and tired, which is always the best feeling to have when returning from a getaway, we think.

We’re a day late, but how was your weekend?

Looks like an awesome weekend! Random question, but can you tell me about the harness for have for CC & Jack? The ones I have for my dog slip over their head and they can pull out of them by backing up. It doesn’t look like the ones you have can do that.

    Thanks!ReplyCancel

I just checked, and there’s no tag anywhere! I know we got them at PetSmart, and they have the ability to hook in the front and the back. We always use the front hook, because it keeps them from pulling.ReplyCancel

Thank you for checking! We have a new PetSmart in town, so I’ll have to go check them out. :)ReplyCancel

They look like the one I have for my dog. It should be in the section with the “petsmart” collars that come in a bunch of colors. If I recall correctly, the harness is just one of those generic options with the small, medium, large collars and leashes.ReplyCancel
