The Week’s End

For the last handful of years around Christmas, we play a game of tourists in the city; we book a hotel downtown for a weekend, and we do whatever we’d like, whenever we’d like.

We walked slowly, with no rush or reason to speed past others on the city sidewalks, we hopped in and out of stores, resting on big, cozy couches to recoup, and we drank ourselves silly in tiki bars and bowling alleys. Cupcakes were the pre-dinner appetizer of choice (of course), and we watched as the fog settled lower and lower – until the pesky rain turned into a steady drizzle, and we were forced to either dash under storefront awnings or buy an umbrella from the corner store (we chose the latter). Sunday morning, we slept in for hours, watched cable in our hotel room, and came home to a few light projects around the house, Netflix with blankets and an earlier-than-normal glass of wine (or two or three).

Now that the last portraits and prints from the shops have been dropped in the mail and Scott has managed to take an extensive holiday break from work, we’re looking forward to a mix of relaxation and productivity – there are walls to paint and closets to install, but there’s Home Alone to watch and another turkey to make, too.

How was your weekend?

PS… Remember last year’s staycation?

This is a great idea! We live in the suburbs of Atlanta, and could do the same.

Congratulations and Merry Christmas to Kim, Scott and all your sweet critters!ReplyCancel
