The Weekender: Remember When?, an Exciting Two Flat Delivery, a DIY to Try + a Photo Editing Shortcut

Chicago | Monroe + LaSalle

In the beginning, it made my heart happy every time a friend or colleague said, I’ve been enjoying the family togetherness. During a Really Real time that will forever go down in history, it was refreshing to know that others were focusing on the positive. We were, too! Rather, we are, too! I think about how Lucy won’t remember this, but we will, and we’ll tell her that we went on a lot of long walks and watched way too much Daniel Tiger. And then I think about my friends with older children, and I hope they remember this as a time when they got to sleep in a little later and hang out with their family. I also think of those in unhappy situations, and I get choked up. I think about the ripple effects and how far they spread, and I vacillate between the silver linings and the sad.

I miss my city, which feels as much a part of our family as anything else! On my birthday this past Saturday, Scott asked if there was anything I couldn’t live without, and I told him I needed to see Chicago again. We hopped in the car with Goose and CC, and we marveled at how deserted the streets were! The lack of cars! It was absolutely wild, and you know I had to bring my camera, right?

We took the photo above on a deserted LaSalle St, right before the dead end where it intersects with Monroe. This stretch of a few blocks has always felt so Chicago-y to me, and I needed to make a memory right there. (Fun fact: we were extras in The Dark Knight, for a scene filmed right where we’re standing!). I’ve never seen Chicago in this proverbial light – certainly not with a little chameleon wearing a birthday hat! – and I want to look at this photo one day with Lucy and say, remember when?

Other Things This Week:

This was the brightest spot of my WHOLE WEEK. Small donations (really!) add up for the greater good.

Why, oh why, has it never occurred to me to do this before? Bravo, Kristen!

Our first exciting purchase was delivered to the Two Flat this week! We picked up two of these swivel mirrors – one for Unit 1, one for Unit 2. They’ll look so sweet above a vanity in those bitty bathrooms.

Have you tried the Studio McGee presets? I just got them all installed on mobile and desktop, and my editing game has never, ever been so quick! As a self-professed photo nerd, I give them a million thumbs up. Psst! The photo at the top of this post was edited using the ‘balance’ preset, followed up with a few extra lighting tweaks.

A good friend of mine (hi, Julie!) introduced me to Inside Weather, and I’m like, where has this been all my life? It’s fresh, clean customizable design, all items are made in the USA – and they give back, too.

I look forward to wearing this every day, and it’s making me so excited for spring weather! (Finally!)

We need to make this with Lucy. The llama kills me!

I’ve been using these serums for the last month now (vitamin C in the morning, A at night), after my BFF wouldn’t stop raving about them. The verdict? I. Am. Hooked. They feel wonderful, smell great and soak in fully. Plus, they’re BOGO 40% off right now!

IG I Love

With the renovation of our Two Flat well underway, I’ve recently realized that almost all of our inspiration is coming from Instagram! Do you follow people on Instagram who make you excited to hop off the couch and create? Even when I’m feeling burned out, there are still images in my feed that can instantly shake away my funk and get me pumped to get back at it! Gah, it feels so good. So to spread the happiness, I’ll be featuring an IG I Love in every #ybhweekender. Today, meet Danielle from @ournestonpowell!

PS: I am always, always up for recommendations of the accounts you love that make you smile. Feel free to share a link in the comments so that we might all find a new follow!

That photo is stunning.  My husband and I visited Chicago early in our relationship and I have very vivid memories of walking down that street and just being in awe! It is such a beautiful city and I can’t wait to visit again some day! ReplyCancel
