Have You Gotten a Haircut Lately?
Since the start of lockdown â over one year ago â Iâve noticed that my friends have fallen into two camps: Camp Get a Haircut and Feel Good About Yourself, and Camp Who Cares No One Sees Me Anyway. Since January of 2020, Iâve fallen into the latter camp, and my hair is longer and thicker (and more unruly) than itâs ever been. Iâve been embracing it for the most part, but my fellow thick-haired Asians out there might understand the dilemma that is the dead weight ponytail. Ouch!
Iâve been fully vaccinated for a month now, so I started to wonder if there was something to the whole Get a Haircut and Feel Good About Yourself thing. I could use a boost, and Iâm a firm believer that hair holds onto bad energy. Even more so, Iâve been considering chopping Lucyâs hair, since she refuses to wear clips or pigtails. I asked my hair stylist if sheâd cut both my and Lucyâs hair, and she encouraged me to cut Lucyâs on my own. It would be a big chop â at least 3 inches! â but she promised me I could do it.
And I did it! And itâs pretty cute! Oh, and I scheduled my own hair appointment for next week, and Iâm counting down the days. Hip, hip!
What Else?
Iâve never felt so seen. (Iâm a 1 all the way, ooof.)
Do you own a mug that says Girlboss? You might be cheugy. I cannot stop laughing at this!
Feeling like weâve hit the end of the internet lately, I Googled âbest true crime documentariesâ and landed on Lorena. I have no idea how we missed this when it first hit the small screen (2019), but wow. It was well done, powerful, and was the catalyst around late-night emotional conversations. All I can say is, if you thought you knew everything about the infamous Bobbitt case, you have no idea. Watch it on Amazon Prime!
Rental kitchens pose a unique challenge: They have to hold up to years of continued use by various people with various levels of cleanliness and various interior styles. [âŠ] But that doesnât mean they have to lack the function or aesthetic youâd find in a home youâd call your own.

Two gorgeous DIY fluted beds hit the blog world this week: Malcolmâs tutorial on Emily Hendersonâs blog has the prettiest marble + brass details (below), and Matt and Beau added fluting from head to toe!

She feels friendly and attainable, while consistently sharing tips where Iâm learning something new â like how to paint your cabinets, how to countersink screws and lazy pantry hacks. Oh, and donât get me started on the mural she drew for her kidsâ play cafe!

Have a Happy Weekend!
Iâm sensitive to the term Motherâs Day, as someone who has experienced infertility and once felt triggered by those words. (But on a fun side note: Scott celebrated Motherâs Day with me every year before Lucy, as the mother of our pets!) So to all my friends, aunts, sisters, pet moms, BFFs, mentors, future moms and motherly figures out there, Iâm wishing you a happy weekend, however you celebrate your love. Itâs also my birthday on Sunday (Iâll be 39!), so Iâm pretty sure Scott will let me do whatever I wish, haha.
And Iâd love to know: If you celebrate Motherâs Day, are you Team Spend All Day with the Fam or Team Close the Blinds and Binge Netflix?
After not having a haircut since Dec 2019, I just got mine cut last week. Iâm in San Diego, where infection numbers are very low â like 200/day (which is crazy b/c mid-Feb we were like 3.500/day), and Iâve had my first vax shot. My hair was obviously unintentionally long, down to my lower back, and I decided to âgo for itâ, and get a significant cut. I asked for it to be cut to my armpits, and she went to my shoulders (like, sitting above my shoulders!). I was so shocked â of course didnât have the cajones to tell the hairdresser that I wasnât happy â and for the first four days post-cut, I wore my hair tied back, a sure sign I was unhappy. On day 5 after the cut, I decided to wash and let it dry down, and it did itâs semi-curl natural thing. I received a few compliments on it at work (made me feel good), and I also realized it looks pretty good â I honestly think my hair was in shock right after the cut, as itâs since calmed down a bit and just looks better. Anyways, hoping your treat of all haircuts is lovely from start to finish, including the first few days post-cut :)
Iâve definitely experienced that shock before after a major cut! Iâve been known to chop 10â like no big deal, but then Iâm nervous for about a week afterwards. Yours sounds lovely! Canât wait to cut off all my dead ends and bad energy.âºïž
I would have loved to not maintain my hair, but with artificial blonde I had to keep it up, haha! Canât wait to see your cut! I also was laughing at cheugy this weekâŠIâm afraid I might be very cheugy, lol.Â
Thatâs a real issue that my blonde friends have had to deal with, haha.
My first haircut since October 2019 is this afternoon, and I couldnât be more excited! Once I also get a pedicure I think Iâll be ready to rejoin society. ;)
Whoot!
Lol⊠Iâve only had my hair professionally cut once, and wasnât impressed. My mom cut my hair for me the whole time I was a kid and teen, and since moving out three years ago, Iâve been cutting my own hair. I have curly hair and just trim it to barely-above-bust length with a slight scoop twice a year, so itâs not exactly a fine skill. :P
I had my hair cut the day my second dose fully kicked in. Iâm a low maintenance, pony tail every day kinda person even without covid â but it was a huge boost for me mentally! Taking a minute to have someone take care of me, and walk out feeling a little lighter was just the thing I needed to give me some positive energy heading into summer. Hope you get the same boost!
So many good links and reads here. My husband cuts my hair, just a straight line across my shoulders, and it turns out great! Iâm excited for the weekend, and have the best birthday!
Im impressed with the cut you did for your Lucy! I have curly hair and mostly trim myself with a professional cut once a year. But curly hair is easy, it does not have to be straight, you just cut curl by curl which takes me a while.
Thank you! She has a little bit of a wave to her hair, so I felt less stressed about it. And my hair stylist cheered me on, so I felt somewhat confident!
Similar hair situation in lockdown. I bought a Crea Clip after seeing it on Shark Tank and it works great! Iâll definitely go back to the salon once our cases come down, but I get a boost every time that I use it. They have a smaller one that might help with Lucyâs cuts, too.
Ooh, Iâll check it out!
Iâve been a few times for highlights/ cut from my salon, it was about early November last year before I headed in. Itâs a big place, and they did a great job with plexi/ spacing out the chairs. Other than my stylist I didnât come within 6 feet from anyone. Digital payments/ online everything they could. I recently am past my vaccine wait period and today Iâm making the first little-scary appointment of having a facial. The place I go to is small and during appointments there are only two guests allowed in the building at a time on opposite ends. Still, with all the precautions and my vaccination, and it felt like it was time to get back to the little luxuries that really help relieve stress. Especially after everything weâve been through!! Not to mention want to keep the places you miss in business as much as we are able to.Â
thank you for posting ourhome.becoming. Literally the first thing I see on the new to me feed is a problem solved for our laundry room. that is the power of your shared links. new finds and problem solving! thanks!
Love that! Lisa is awesome.
Haaaaaaa. My last haircut was June of 2019. Since then, I have only trimmed my bangs and shaved my undercut. It is now to the point where if I sit, it touches the seat of the chair. If/when I get my next haircut, itâll literally be like 20â³ off and itâll STILL be long as hell.Â
I just think itâs funny, because people are like, what do you do to get it to grow so long??? And⊠I donât know what to tell them. I just. Donât get it cut. And it, you know. Does its thing. I do regret not shaving my head when everyone else did at the beginning of quarantine. I wouldâve loved to see how fast it all grew back, ha!
Oh, that would have been a fun experiment, haha! But does it look healthy when itâs that long? I always wish my long hair wouldnât look so ragged on the edges. Oh, to be young again, haha!
