Sorry, Mom.

Our subversive cross stitch has been in our home for years (a unique gift from a close pal – thanks, Jill!), but a new spot changes everything. During a pre-spring cleaning frenzy, we moved this from a high shelf in the living room to our kitchen counter.

Since the new rotation, I’ve been catching the cheeky phrase from the corner of my eye, and the man and I are loving the friendly reminder – especially when it’s seemingly the absurd, small trials that’ve got you down. Excuse us for the Friday morning expletives (and apologies for any offense taken), but man…those are some, um, words to live by.

And, it’s practically the weekend, after all. File the week’s stresses away and, well, f-the-d-s (as we put it around here). Not to be confused with taking J (Jack) to the p (park). Yes, we one-letter it around here – I swear our pup can spell. So, any fun plans on the agenda?

Ha! When we got our puppy I told my boyfriend that we had to use words like ‘walk’ and ‘treat’ more frequently in our everyday conversation because I didn’t want our dog to learn what they meant. He does understand the word ‘toy’ though.

Also I’ve been thinking of learning to cross stitch for a while. You MAY have just convinced me to buy this book.ReplyCancel

  • That’s hilarious! My parents’ American Eskimo can spell so when it’s time for a walk, they can’t even spell it or say the initial. For now, the code is Do you want to go for a you-know-what? but I’m sure it will change again when he catches on :)

    Have a great weekend!ReplyCancel

Its new home on the kitchen counter looks perfect. Just don’t splatter those words with tomato sauce!!! Maybe have it take cover in the bread box when you’re making meals? JK. I know you wouldn’t do it wrong. AND AMEN, FUCK THE DUMB SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!ReplyCancel

  • Ha! I like the reminder! We have to do the same thing-using codes around Vincent.ReplyCancel

Aww… this just made me think of my best friend Andrea. She lives far away now, but she would always say “Fuck the Bullshit!” Also, words to live by =)ReplyCancel

I cross stitched a piece for over the toilet that said “Put the damn seat down” but it just seemed to anger the men. I think a sentiment like this is the way to go!ReplyCancel

All, it seems as though our kids are all too smart for us! Glad to hear some of you are in for a fun weekend, too.

Jill – I’m thinking I’ll use some glass from a spare frame to protect it from any potential kitchen disasters… xo!ReplyCancel

ok, glass that puppy up! i’m sitting on the couch relaxing while both of my boys nap. blizzard in cleveland today, so we’ll be heading out tomorrow a.m. kinda nice to have a chill day. also, just wait until you have human babies (ha!) who start understanding everything. we both have to tape shut our sailor mouths! leo’s now saying letters, W is our fav (sounds like DUB-BEE), mommy, daddy, ba for boss, Shoe, Oma (my mom’s “grandma”), Pa, night night, milk, bye, hi, nose, ear, bear, ball, BEER, Elmo, cheerio, mail (he loves getting the mail and SAYING mail when it comes through the slot), banana (sounds like nana), and any other random thing he tries to say after I ask him to say”___”. But those are the words he’ll say on his own. His little voice cracks me up!!!ReplyCancel

    Several things:

    1) Have you seen the “Bless this House” cross-stitch featured on Regretsy? It’s brilliant. http://www.regretsy.com/2010/12/31/my-top-five-etsy-purchases-of-2010/

    2) My mom has several wall hangings in her house that have the unintentional humor of the Midwestern country home. One is a cross-stitch that says “Backdoor friends are best” (that would be a HUGE seller in the Castro out here, lemme tell you) and another is a wooden angel with a broom and the saying “It’s not dirt! It’s angel dust!”

That said, my mother would also love the sampler you’ve got. She may have some naively funny objects in the house, but she also has a mouth like a truck driver.ReplyCancel

Oh my gosh… This is my motto in life! I love it! And we always spell out the word walk but I’m pretty sure all three dogs have learned how to spell it!ReplyCancel
