When I was contacted by Amy to commission sleepy-time portraits of her two kitties Itchy and Leroy, I was all in. Considering most of our feline friends prefer to sleep all day (and all night), it only made sense to create a napping series – of course! But when I saw how Itchy preferred her shut eye, I couldn’t help but laugh:
Here’s what Amy has to say about her silly kiddo:
Itchy is our little old lady – and I do mean little. She weighs only about 3 lbs now, but I don’t think she’s ever weighed more than 7 lbs. Her favorite thing is laps, and she seeks out warmth. She is no happier than when she is laying on someone’s lap. Mike and I often look down to all of a sudden realize Itchy is curled up in our lap. She’s so light that we often don’t notice her until she’s on us. Stealthy, that one.
Even though she’s small, she’s tough. She does not take crap from anyone or anything. She absolutely rules our house even though she appears to be the sweetest little old cat.
Thank you, Amy!
Itchy was painted on a 6×6 canvas and wood panel. For more information on custom work of your own, check us out at The Pet Shop, a tiny division of our Yellow Brick Home.
I love Itchy’s face plant! Hilarious! :)
That’s hysterical…I love this – Thanks for sharing =)
I cannot express how much we love this portrait as well as the one of Leroy. That you for capturing our precious, sleepy kitties so perfectly.
I just had to leave a note saying thank you so much for the portraits. Leroy and Itchy have been part of my life for 18 years and now they will be with me forever. You captured who they really are and I can see it every time I look at the portraits. Thanks again
Mike, I’m so happy to hear this! It always makes my month to hear from the person who was gifted the portrait(s). Itchy and Leroy were so fun to paint!
Super adorable! My kitty (a Leroy as well!) sleeps just like Itchy sometimes and it’s the cutest thing.
Shanna, I thought of you when I received Amy’s order. Their Leroy looks a lot like your Leroy; both are orange-stripey-cuties!
So cute! I love it. Reminds me of my mom’s cat, Mick. He would fall asleep face first in his food bowl after eating. :)
