Oh, Sweet Friday

Good Friday morning, all, and…is it really October already? Phew. I half expect sweaters, boots, and steamy spiced drinks to fall into my lap. Especially this weekend when we’ll be rolling up those sleeves and attending the Design Harvest, Chicago’s first annual local furniture, home accessory, and vintage-lovers street fest. You read right. My brain hasn’t even had a chance to process how potentially amazing this could be. And of course we’ll share the details next week.

Until then, we thought we’d share a few fun moving-and-prep day memories. At this same time three years ago, we found ourselves more-than-knee-deep in cardboard boxes, searching for our lost cats (I know I saw Libby in here somewhere… 2 hours ago), and loading up our then-Jeep with loose dishes and clothes still on the hangers. Yup. Three years ago, we moved into this yellow brick home. And made quite a mess.

Of course we spent most of September painting the majority of our walls Behr’s Chlorophyll and Pumpkin Patch, even going so far as installing curtains (and you know we love a good curtain) all before move-in day. We spent the last handful of years arranging, rearranging, and arranging again. And picking up a new kid along the way – surely just to lose him in our future cardboard jungle. (One day).

Anyone else in this Windy City planning on attending the Harvest? What else do you have in store for our first October (yay!) weekend?

I wish I could attend the Harvest street fest. It sounds like it’s going to be an amazing blast full of goodies!

For my first October weekend I’m driving a few hours to visit my mom and sister. The weather is perfect for a long drive so I’m looking forward to it. :)ReplyCancel

Hooray October! This time last year we were moving into our house and celebrating our first anniversary. This year we’re planning to relax, watch a lot of football, take some bike rides, and get ready to celebrate two years of marriage. Aaaaaand maybe buy a Jeep(!) that we’ve been lusting after.ReplyCancel

Cait, congrats on 2 years! Ours is coming up this November. We love Fall weddings.

Crossing our fingers on the Jeep! Scott and I were a Jeep family (he had a Wrangler and I had a a good, boxy Cherokee) until we moved to Chicago and no longer needed 2 cars. We lasted a year with my Cherokee until we moved into our now-home. We miss them though!ReplyCancel

I know how the I-can’t-find-my-cat feeling. I have it every once in a while when my Trinity disappears and I have this strange feeling she “got out” (although, this could never happen; I never leave doors open)

I have to know … where did you get your bed’s headboard? It’s lovely. :)ReplyCancel

      Hi Amanda,

When searching through a cardboard jungle, it’s so easy to lose the little ones! Our cats are terrified of the outdoors, so we don’t have to worry about them escaping… it’s just finding them in our own home.

The headboard was purchased through Overstock.com (gotta love the $2.95 shipping price!). And if you’re wondering where we got anything, we put all that information in our source list, found here: https://yellowbrickhome.com/source-list/.ReplyCancel

I haven’t heard about design harvest! I will have to check that out! Otherwise we are going out to Edwards Apple Orchard this Saturday to celebrate fall.:) Happy October!ReplyCancel

    Hi Emily!

There is no worse feeling than running out of paint with a 4×6 patch of wall left to cover. I think we’d probably been at it for an entire day when this photo was taken… trying to squeak out the last drops to finish up the living room, which we had underestimated by a bit!ReplyCancel

Yes! I think I’m going on Sunday to check out the goods! I just past 3 years at my tiny abode. woo!!ReplyCancel

Thanks and yay another fall wedding fan!

The Jeep is looking like a good possibility, so the crossed fingers must be helping! :) We’re going to look at it as soon as we’re both home from work. We would probably be a Jeep family if my car wasn’t already paid for. Robert had a box Cherokee when we dated in high school that he LOVED and we borrow his dad’s Wrangler as much as possible, haha. Ideally I’d like to be a one car/biking family with maybe one seldom driven “play toy”, but we both work too far from the house for that, sadly.ReplyCancel
