For the Gifts

After Young House Love’s last Pinterest challenge, I took full advantage of everyone’s creativity and got to pinning myself. Although I didn’t partake in the challenge, you know I had fun reaping the benefits. And while the last few months have been crazytown around this house, Scott and I took a few moments to slow down and do something fun, for no good reason other than we wanted to, that’s why. Inspiration courtesy of Sherry and her bitty animal ornaments, in all her genuis-ness glory.

We bought two tubes of toy animals from the craft store – one with zoo animals and the other with nothing but monkeys – and a small pack of eye hooks. For the full rundown of what we did, see what she did right here. After all, there’s no point in reinventing the already working wheel.

They’re tiny, cute, and perfect for prettying up our gifts to give. I’ve always been a fan of simple wrapping and clean bows, and these shiny embellishments finish it off just right.

Of course we only have one wrapped and ready, again with the whole oh, we’re so behind! thing. But that one gift is looking good, mind you. And because we got two tubes of toys, we were able to make 24 ornament-slash-gift-toppers, and we even kept a few favorites to amp up our sad, flood-washed collection.

The whole project took less than an afternoon, with the majority of time being spent literally watching paint dry. We were dorkily excited over the cuteness of it all (yup, Scott included), and we were reminded yet again to slow down and, you know, be crafty. Have some fun. Put no-good stress behind us, and stick that pesky, bossy to-do list on the back burner for another day. Especially at this time of year.

Do you have any holiday-themed DIYs to share? We’d love to see, get inspired, and pin the crap out of them.

PS… If you’re looking to give a Pet Shop gift certificate, your order should be placed no later than today to ensure a timely Christmakwanzakuh delivery. Have a question? Email us anytime!

How cute. Now I’m glad I didn’t end up sending you ornaments in your Christmas package after reading that you had a semi-naked tree. Even so, part of what I did send was also inspired by a project on Pinterest : ) Thanks for getting me hooked on my new obsession KIM (can’t stop pinning…)!ReplyCancel
