After our recent flood, all of the contents of our then water logged basement were placed into a wetness relocation program. (Get it? Oh, so punny.) Some things made their way to the cozy confines of our office, while some soggy and bulky items were left outside on our semi-secure deck to dry out. Yes, we know you know this. However, one thing we forgot to factor into the equation was that with all of the contractors in and out of our common back area, our giant, Lord of the Rings-style gate would likely be propped open at some point. Oops.
A couple of days later, in a moment of panic, we noticed the absence of two notable items. Kim’s favorite little blue bike (which I had built for her upon our arrival to Chicago) seemed to have been taken by sticky fingers. The second, and at this point more necessary item (lucky girl has two bikes) was my compound miter saw. It was old, heavy and loud, (like some of our favorite bands) but it got the job done.
Welp, Kim’s little bluey – as she called it – has yet to be replaced. But. I did happen to score this bad boy on Craigslist yesterday for about 1/3 of the retail price.
I know, last time we talked, I mentioned that Home Depot had become my big-boy-toy-store, so I guess that makes Craigslist’s tools section akin to a candy store, and I’ll be darned if I don’t love candy. The funny thing about tools is that people tend to buy them when they want them, use them once and then realize how much space they take up. Much like too many JuJuBes in your belly. But I digress…
Needless to say, I’m super excited to put this big guy through it’s paces. Along with my other new toy, we’re hoping to get started on the secret storage project this weekend. Truly. (Um, fingers crossed.) The restoration company is on-site as we speak, and is doing a bang-up job resurrecting the common basement from un-usability. We’re chomping at the bit to get started.
Any new tool purchases of your own to report? We’d love to hear about the must-haves that fill your garages and tool boxes. We’re always looking for recommendations, and I’m willing to bed that I can call my good friend Craig to help me find what you’ve got me looking for.
We recently bought a compressor and nail gun that may or may not have something to do with the pile of pallets at the bottom of this post: http://hernandohouse.wordpress.com/2010/09/07/shoes-required-part-2/
Oh, Cait! I know I’m an oddball, but that pile of pallets makes me very excited. We can’t wait to see what you do!
Two Bad… toys in a week! What a score! I taught you well! Good job, son!
I know, Pops! I’m certainly glad I passed on that piece of junk I saw at The Flea this last weekend. This craftsman is like new! Can’t wait to use it.
