Three Years

3 years ago today, these two fools got hitched:

Since then, we’ve spent lots of time making our tiny condo into a cozy home, raising our pets, painting  your pets, traveling, and of course, eating hot dogs quickly in photo booths.

Yes, we’re huge dorks, and we’re in big dorky love with each other. There’s not much I won’t do to get a giggle out of Kim, and there’s not much she won’t do to remind me why we fell in love in the first place. Now, don’t get me wrongthings aren’t always roses and buttercups around here. We certainly have our differences, but we (almost) always find a way to compromise and work things through.

After honeymooning in Jamaica, we made a pact three years ago to spend time away from home every anniversary, and year #3 was no exception. Anniversary #1 saw us head south to Nashville, while last year saw an epic journey down the California coast. This past weekend, we packed up the trusty Subaru and traveled to Grand Rapids, Michigan to attend the wedding of a couple of awesome friends and neighbors.

It turns out that Grand Rapids is, actually, a blast! Our weekend saw us at a dueling piano bar, a junk shop, an estate sale (totally random and which we almost passed, but turned a U-y and back tracked to said sale), a delicious brunch spot, and of course, the grand finale – one of the most fun weddings we’ve attended.

Great friends new and old, a photo booth, nods to New Orleans (where the happy couple got engaged), a unicorn-and-dragon-topped cake, drinking, dancing, and a couple that stands among the happiest we know reminded everyone in attendance just how much fun it can be to find the person you’re destined to spend the rest of your life with.

With three years behind us, I can honestly (finally – kidding!) say that Kim and I are soul mates, and this weekend we were fortunate enough to welcome two wonderful friends to the land of the hitched.

See how we incorporated the traditional paper gift for year one, and sneak our wedding album shared in year two.

Happy 3 years! My husband and I just celebrate our third this year as well. :) I’m so glad you linked to the California trip you took last year because that is what we’re planning for our 5th anniversary to a T – flying into San Diego and out of San Francisco while driving the Pacific Coast Highway in between.

Any tips or must-sees that are out of the ordinary?ReplyCancel

      Thank you, everyone!

Ashley, we lived by one rule during that trip: If even ONE of us wanted to pull over on the side of Highway 1 – whether it was a “scenic view” or not – we pulled over. It made for a very, very long drive, but a gorgeous one. And take photos like it’s your only job! We also stayed in a beautiful resort in Big Sur called Tree Bones; we can’t recommend it highly enough! Check it out, and stay for a night in a yurt there if possible :)ReplyCancel
